Frequently Asked Questions

The academy is designed for junior players aged 5 to 16 years, with programs grouped by age and skill level to ensure safe and effective development.

No prior experience is required. The academy welcomes beginners through to advanced players, and training groups are structured to match each player’s ability.

Training sessions are held at various Sydney Locations. Locations may vary depending on age group and program availability.

Most programs run every weekend for term classes and Monday to Friday for two weeks for Holiday Camps, depending on the selected academy package and the player’s age group.

All coaches are qualified and experienced junior basketball coaches, with a strong focus on skill development, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship.

The primary focus is player development, including fundamentals, confidence, and enjoyment of the game. Competitive pathways may be introduced for older or advanced players.

No. Drop off can be no earlier than 8:40am as our Coaches will be setting up and we are not allowed to use the venue any earlier. Pick up is at 3pm.

Yes. They will need to bring their own basketball with their name written on it to each day of camp.

We suggest size 5 for players that are aged 5-8, size 6 for players 8-13, and size 7 for players aged 13-14.

We suggest either Kmart or Rebel. Both have a wide range of affordable rubber and synthetic leather balls.

Your child will need to bring their water bottle, basketball, lunch, morning tea, hat and sunscreen. The venues are all indoors, however depending on the weather we may have lunch or use an area outside which is why we always suggest packing a hat and sunscreen.

Yes of course! In the camp registration form there is a section for notes. Please just notify us about your request and our coaches will be able to organise this so they can be in the same team.

Please check our home page to see our listed locations or choose the location under the Holiday Camps tab. You will be able to scroll down and see the camp dates and other details.

Yes, we run our camps every school holiday period.

JBA was started in 2014 and has grown to be one of Sydney’s largest basketball academies and school holiday camp companies. We are very proud to say that the vast majority of our players and parents are return players and have attended multiple camps and classes, with some players being with JBA since we started in 2014.

We are different to other camps and academies because we provide lower 8ft rings and smaller basketballs for our younger players so they can develop the correct shooting technique and confidence when practicing new skills.

Yes we do. Please email info@juniorbasketballacademy.com.au and let us know the age and skill level of your child, along with what area you live in so we can find the best coach for them.

Yes we do. Please select the Skills Classes tab on our website to select the location and schedule that is most convenient for you.

Yes we do! Our camps are for players of all skill levels. Players will be divided into groups and teams based on their ages and skill levels.

All players will be provided with a JBA shirt to wear during the sessions. They will also need to wear appropriate shoes (running shoes or basketball shoes) and clothing for sports and fitness (shorts, t-shirt and/or singlet).

You will need to disclose this when completing your registration form and supply your child with any medication (including inhalers and EpiPens) that they may need. We also suggest speaking to our coaches on the first day of camp. If they have an injury we suggest getting a doctor's clearance before allowing them to participate at our camp.

This varies from day to day and also depends on the venue as some days are busier than others. However, we do cap and close days off if they reach capacity.

If you can select the date when completing your registration form, this means there is still space available. If a date is Full and we have closed registrations, we will mark this clearly in red and remove it from the registration form.

No, we do not provide refunds for days that they failed to attend.

In the event a participant is unable to attend the camp due to some unexpected medical condition, please immediately send us an email at info@juniorbasketballacademy.com.au along with the medical certificate. We can provide a credit to attend the next camp within 6 months from the date of issuance as long as there is a medical certificate.

All camp venues are indoors and will be on rain, hail or shine unless stated otherwise. We still suggest packing a hat and sunscreen, especially on warm days, as we may have lunch and recess outdoors depending on the venue.
